Architectural competition

Year: 2019

I was asked to give a hand in a small competition for the best project to renovate and improve the historical environment of a local town. I had no idea if we won or not eventually, as by then I was already far in the other country. Nevertheless, I've made a decision to help anyway.

I still had no idea how to texture things, however it wasn't even required, due to the scale of the scene. I delivered 3 small, rather low poly models made in 3DsMax.

That was also the first time I haven't made bevel manually (as previously falsely taught), instead the bevel was added through a shader. Also, I was instructed how to use the match perspective technique in order to make more accurate models of buildings using a photo as a reference. In Blender it can be achieved using fSpy. Before that I just eyeballed references.

The render you see below is a modern one, made in Blender. Years have passed, and my skills in texturing still leave much to be desired, however I've managed to add ugly flat quick clouds using Sky texture and some noise. Can't compare even remotely to any decent work of true environmental artists, but better than nothing, huh?:)

I also have no clue how to add horizon haze in Blender, so I just blocked the horizon with buildings :)

Learned this time

Quick clouds using Sky and Noise textures
Match perspective for higher model accuracy
